Public invited to learn more about Piers Park III project, give input, ask questions
A series of public information and input sessions about the Piers Park III project in East Boston kicks off with two virtual events next week.
The two meetings will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12 and from 6-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13, with Tuesday’s session in English, and Wednesday’s meeting conducted in Spanish. All are welcome to attend and the virtual events are free, with advance registration required.
“We're looking forward to giving updates on the Piers Park III project, taking questions, hearing concerns, and getting input,” says Nick Black, Trustees Managing Director of the Boston Waterfront Initiative. “A critical part of this project is to hear from and closely involve the community right from the start, so that we’re building a park together, and addressing local concerns, priorities, and needs.”
As the first two events in the series, each will begin with an introduction on the project from both The Trustees Boston Waterfront Initiative team and landscape designer Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions and participate in poll questions throughout the discussion, with the sessions culminating in an open Q&A opportunity.
With site developer designation from Massport, the Boston Waterfront Initiative is working to transform the Piers Park III location into a dynamic and welcoming public park. Currently the site is an abandoned pier, adjacent to Piers Park and the soon-to-be Piers Park II. The initial phase of the work, the community design process, is expected to continue throughout 2021.
As a part of this phase, meetings with neighborhood associations and community groups began in the fall, with outreach and input opportunities continuing regularly throughout the project. Additional public input opportunities are launching soon on onewaterfront.org, including a survey open to all, and a message board for design suggestions and general questions.
