Voice your opinions, ideas, and questions about Piers Park III, online
After gathering initial public input around the design for Piers Park III in East Boston during two virtual meetings on January 12 and 13, new online feedback opportunities have launched and are available to all who wish to weigh in during the community design process.
The virtual feedback tools include a survey and community message board. On the message board, contributors can view photos of the site (currently an abandoned pier adjacent to Piers Park and the future Piers Park II) and propose design features, landscape elements, and any other ideas for the future public waterfront park, currently in the community design phase.
A critical step for this phase, taking place throughout 2021, is incorporating community feedback, addressing concerns, and understanding local needs for the future park. The new online survey includes a mix of multiple choice and open-ended questions, all aimed at understanding how people currently use available open space, and what they would like to see in the future. Questions include, “How often do you visit public parks?” “What is your favorite outdoor activity?” and “What types of programming would attract you to Piers Park III?”
In addition to these feedback tools, emails are always welcome at onewaterfront@thetrustees.org.
“We hope to hear from a broad audience,” says Nick Black, Managing Director of The Trustees Boston Waterfront Initiative. “Additional virtual public input meetings will be announced soon, but in the meantime, this is an opportunity to voice your ideas and opinions at any time. Please share these pages with your neighbors, friends, and networks—anyone who has an interest in the future Piers Park III.”
Feedback is being gathered by the Boston Waterfront Initiative team and landscape architecture firm Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc. ahead of creating the first design concepts. Once the first design concepts are created using the public input, they will be shared publicly for another round of feedback, and design updates.
“We’re looking for this to be a very open, interactive process,” adds Black. “It is very important to us that this be a park designed with, and for, the community.”
