Registration is open! Join us for Earth Day and Boston Design Week events

Mark your calendar! The Boston Waterfront Initiative team is pleased to be joining two upcoming events: Boston Design Week and a CityAwake-hosted Climate Readiness Earth Day panel.

The Earth Day event, taking place on April 22 at 11:30am, will host regional leaders sharing ideas and action items on how the next generation can advocate for climate readiness to become a priority within their companies, industries, and communities. The panel will feature:

  • Nick Black: Managing Director, The Trustees Boston Waterfront Initiative

  • Kalila Barnett: Program Officer, Climate Resilience, Barr Foundation

  • Blair Spotswood Hollis: Head of Institutional Relations, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

“We’re looking forward to this interactive discussion, learning from our colleagues and sharing some of the ways our Waterfront Ambassadors have contributed to climate conversations in their own neighborhoods,” says Black. “Working with the next generation of leaders is critical for climate resiliency efforts. The decisions we make to adapt to our changing climate today are what will shape the future they inherit, so having these voices present at the table is key.”

Two weeks later on May 6 at 6pm, a Boston Design Week-hosted presentation will explore how The Trustees, a 130-year-old land conservation organization, began planning an iconic waterfront destination on Boston’s harbor. During the presentation The Trustees Boston Waterfront Initiative team will also provide the latest on the Piers Park III project in East Boston, for which the first design draft was recently released.

“The Trustees is Massachusetts’ largest, and the nation’s first, conservation and preservation nonprofit,” adds Black. “Many know The Trustees for its historic houses, conserved beaches, and scenic trails, but we also have deep and growing roots in Boston—roots that date back to our founding in 1891. We’re looking forward to sharing some of that history and also hearing feedback on our ongoing project to build a resilient and welcoming waterfront park in East Boston.”

The Trustees Boston Waterfront Initiative, One Waterfront, is working to create equitable, climate-resilient parks around Boston’s harbor. The first site, Piers Park III in East Boston, was announced this fall with the launch of initial design work in partnership with the community, Massport, and Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc. Meetings with neighborhood associations and community groups are ongoing, including Trustees-hosted public forums.
